make mine Deuteronomy 32:23 I will heap mischiefs on them; I will spend my arrows on them. Psalm 45:5 Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under you. Psalm 68:23 That your foot may be dipped in the blood of your enemies, and the tongue of your dogs in the same. Ezekiel 38:21, 22 And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, said the Lord GOD: every man's sword shall be against his brother... revenges The word {paroth}, rendered {revenges}, a sense in which it never seems to be used, had rendered this passage very obscure. As the word {paira} signifies the {hair of the head}, both in Hebrew and Arabic, Mr. Parkhurst and others render {mairosh parorth}, `from the hairy head;' but to have this sense, the words should rather have been {mipparoth rosh}, according the Hebrew idiom. The word {farou}, in Arabic, however, also denotes a prince or chief; and the words may be literally rendered, with the LXX () `from the head of the chiefs of the enemies.' The {hyperbaton}, or trans- position of words from their grammatical order, is very observable in this verse; the third member forming a continuation of the first, and fourth of the second. Job 13:24 Why hide you your face, and hold me for your enemy? Jeremiah 30:14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they seek you not; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy... Lamentations 2:5 The LORD was as an enemy: he has swallowed up Israel, he has swallowed up all her palaces: he has destroyed his strong holds... |
