Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said to Abram, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father's house...

my father's. i.e., where the family of Haran his brother had settled; and where he himself had remained some time with his father Terah. Nahor did not dwell at Ur of the Chaldees, but at Haran in Mesopotamia. The true worship of God seems to have been in some measure preserved in this family, though afterwards corrupted.
